Take a step toward a more adventurous winter with one of our Guided Winter Adventures. Whether you are looking for a way to get a good outdoor workout or learn new skills to help you explore the backcountry, we have a program for you. Drawing on his 20 years of leading adventures in the White Mountains, our Director of Guided Programs, Steve Nichipor, has designed programs suitable for everyone, from beginner to expert. Let him and his expert staff take you on a winter adventure you won't soon forget, right here in New Hampshire's White Mountains.


Steve Nichipor, Climbing and Guided Programs Director has been guiding backcountry skiing in the White Mountains for 20 years. He has backcountry skied and studied avalanche safety all over North America. He has taught avalanche safety classes on Mt. Washington for over 10 years and has also taught in Jackson Hole, Wyoming. He is Level 3 Certified by the American Institute for Avalanche Research and Education (AIARE) and Level 1 Professional Certified by the Canadian Avalanche Association. As an experience guide and backcountry adventurer, Steve is familiar with local trails and wonderful adventures near Bretton Woods.


Do you want more than our normal adventures provide? Our Director of Guided Programs, Steve Nichipor, has been guiding climbers and backcountry skiers for over 15 years. He can take you on a winter ascent of Mount Washington, backcountry skiing in Tuckerman Ravine or ice climbing on Frankenstein Cliff. The possibilities are endless. Advanced reservations are required for these specialized trips in order to plan the best experience for you.

Introduction to Backcountry Skiing
Learn the basics to get out and enjoy the backcountry of the White Mountains and beyond. You'll learn about efficient uphill travel with climbing skins, basics of avalanche safety, and earn some great turns. There are many possibilities of locations based on your ability and current conditions, including Tuckerman Ravine, Mount Hale, and Little Deception Mountain. Give us a call to discuss your goals. Avalanche safety gear is provided. Alpine Touring or Telemark skis are available for rent.

Mount Washington Winter Ascent Join us for one of the most exciting adventures in the northeast. Climbing Mount Washington in the winter will test you physically and mentally and is likely to be an experience you'll remember for the rest of your life. The ascent averages around 5 hours, covering 4 miles and 4258' of elevation. The descent averages around 3 hours. En route you will likely encounter ice, snow, rocks, winds, cold temps, and possibly freezing fog and snow. Climbers should be in very good physical condition and must be properly equipped. Routes can be planned depending on snow conditions and guests' experience and ability. Mountaineering boots, crampons and ice axe are required but are available for rent from a local outfitter. Guests are required to provide their own clothing and backpack.

Beginner Ice Climbing
Learn how to climb frozen waterfalls in this exciting class. You'll learn how to use ice axes, crampons, and a climbing rope to ascend frozen waterfalls. It's a lot of fun and you'll want to come back for more once you're "hooked." This adventure is suitable for anyone in average physical condition and good health. Technical equipment is provided. Boots and crampons are available for rent.
Guided Intermediate to Advanced Ice Climbing
The White Mountains are home to some of the best ice climbing in the country. Crawford Notch hosts a wide variety of climbs, from short, steep climbs at Frankenstein Cliff to long alpine routes on Mt. Willard and Mt Webster. We'll choose routes that will fun and challenging based on your experience and goals.
