John Pawlak, Director of Golf
John Pawlak is well acquainted with golf in New England, drawing on several years of experience. Prior to his Director of Golf position here at Omni Mount Washington Resort, he was Director of Golf/General Manager of the Tater Hill Golf Club at Okemo Mountain Resort in Windham, VT. Previously, Pawlak oversaw the 18-hole redesign at the John Cain Golf Club in Newport, NH; spent two years as Head Professional at the Marsh Creek Country Club in St. Augustine, FL; and held Assistant Professional positions at Harbour Town Golf Links and Amelia Island Plantation on Hilton Head Island. He began his golf career earlier than most, working at Bretwood Golf Course in Keene, NH, from seventh grade through high school.
During his apprenticeship at Hilton Head Island, Harbour Town Golf Links, John worked with the Bert Yancey Classical School of Golf. There he focused on the finer elements of classic fundamentals and solid ball striking. Throughout his more then 26 years in the PGA, john has set up and organized many instructional programs. Junior clinics, Beginner and Intermediate and shot-specific clinics. In addition to golf, John is a Level III PSIA-E ski instructor and a Level II Race Coach in the winter.
Pawlak's passion for golf is infectious - particularly to his family. His oldest son Ross entered the PGA program following graduation from Johnson State College in Vermont; his daughter Kait, a two-time All-American skier at Plymouth State College in New Hampshire, is headed into golf merchandising; and his youngest son Sam is a high school student who loves skiing and golf. His wife Deb is a real estate broker for Sotheby's International in Ludlow, VT.
Born and raised in Keene, NH, Pawlak studied Turf Management at Lake City College in Florida. He currently resides with his family in Windham, VT.
Dave Ousterhout, Golf Course Suprintendent
David Ousterhout joined Omni Mount Washington Resort as Golf Course Superintendent in the spring of 2009.
David obtained his Bachelor of Science in Agronomy, with an emphasis in Golf and Sports Turfgrass Management, at Mississippi State University before entering beginning his career in the golf industry. David brings to Omni Mount Washington Resort 11 years of experience as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at three exclusive private country clubs in southeastern New England, including working as Assistant Golf Course Superintendent at the Country Club of New Bedford, MA, for the past five years before joining the Omni Mount Washington Resort.
David's strong agronomic, landscape construction and horticultural background combined with his significant experience in the renovation of two other vintage Donald Ross-designed golf courses to create an ideal match for Omni Mount Washington Resort, which reopened the Donald Ross-designed 18-hole Mount Washington Course for its first full season of play following a complete restoration by course architect Brian Silva in the spring of 2009.
David lives in Bartlett, NH, with his 4 dogs. David's family owned a vacation home in Bartlett for over 20 years before he moved to the area --- to what he calls, "the best of both worlds." An avid outdoorsman, David enjoys golf and being outdoors all summer, just as much as skiing, snowboarding and all the outdoor activities that come with the snow. In fact, he took his first ski lesson at Bretton Woods many years ago.
